By Faith: Trusting the Unseen Work of a Faithful God

A Reflection on Hebrews 11:1 and the Story Behind This Design

Some Bible verses become lifelong companions.

They show up at exactly the right moment, offering peace when life feels uncertain. They remind us that God is still working, even when we can't see what He's doing.

For my Aunt Kathy, that verse has always been Hebrews 11:1:

"Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." — Hebrews 11:1 (NIV)

When she shared this verse with me, it sparked the inspiration for this shirt. Not because faith always makes life easy—but because it reminds us that we serve a God who is faithful, even in the waiting.

Faith Isn't Seeing—It's Trusting

If we're honest, we'd all love to know how the story ends. But that's not how God usually works.

Throughout Scripture, God often asked His people to walk before they could see.

  • Noah built an ark before a single drop of rain had fallen.
  • Abraham left everything familiar without knowing where he was going.
  • Moses stood before the Red Sea before it ever parted.
  • Joshua marched around Jericho long before the walls came down.

Faith has always required trusting God's character more than our circumstances.

The Unseen Work

That's why the words on this shirt mean so much:

"By Faith I Trust the Unseen Work of a Faithful God."

There are seasons when God seems silent.

Prayers feel unanswered.
Dreams feel delayed.
Doors remain closed.

Yet Scripture reminds us that silence is not the same as absence.

Just because we cannot see God moving doesn't mean He has stopped working.

A seed spends months growing underground before anyone sees the first sprout.

Roots grow long before flowers bloom.

God often does His greatest work beneath the surface—in our hearts, our character, our trust, and our dependence on Him.

The unseen work is still holy work.

Hebrews 11 Is Filled with Ordinary People

One of my favorite things about Hebrews 11 is that it isn't a chapter about perfect people.

It's a chapter about people who simply chose to trust God.

Some experienced incredible victories.

Others endured hardship.

Many never saw the full promise fulfilled during their lifetime.

Yet every one of them is remembered for one thing:

They believed God was faithful.

That same invitation is extended to us today.

Not to have perfect faith.

Not to have fearless faith.

Simply to have faith in a perfectly faithful God.

A Daily Reminder

I love creating designs that do more than decorate a shirt.

I want them to start conversations.

To encourage someone standing in the grocery store checkout line.

To remind a stranger that God hasn't forgotten them.

To remind the person wearing it that even when life feels uncertain, God is still writing the story.

This design isn't really about mountains or sunsets.

It's about hope.

It's about trusting the God who is working behind every sunrise—even when we can't yet see what He's preparing.

A Personal Thank You

This design will always hold a special place in my heart because it began with my Aunt Kathy sharing one of her favorite verses with me.

Sometimes the greatest encouragement comes from the people God places in our lives—those who quietly point us back to His promises.

I'm thankful she shared this verse, and I pray these words encourage others the same way they've encouraged our family.

Walking by Faith

Maybe today you're waiting for healing.

Maybe you're praying for someone you love.

Maybe you're wondering why God feels silent.

Hold on.

The God who has been faithful throughout every page of Scripture is still faithful today.

Even when you cannot see His hand…

You can trust His heart.

"By faith I trust the unseen work of a faithful God."

And perhaps that's exactly the reminder we all need.
